"A tumultuous change in the life of our Synod"
notes president-elect, Rev Matthew Harrison. Well, we'll see.
I am pleased beyond words that Pastor Harrison was elected. I beleive we have been on the wrong road for some time.
My concern though, is that his job will be like catching a snowball the size of a Corolla rolling downhill. He will have to catch it and push it back up to the lofty heights of good catechesis, with an emphasis on the doctrine Scripture teaches and the Unaltered Augsburg Confession expresses.
He will have to do this without the snowball breaking. And we will expect him to be able to!
Pastor Harrison will be villified by those who thought we were on the right road -- downplaying doctrine, going for mega-church growth principles that bleach the Bible's pages white.
Pastor Harrison will be villified by his "friends" -- he won't do enough, he will act too slowly and on and on.
Oremus... let us pray... for the whole people of God that an increase in Trinitarian, Sacramental, that is to say Scriptural, faith would mark those who claim to be Church
for the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, that she would focus on the Confessions that have marked her from "birth" and boldly go forward, in that orthodox faith which has not changed.
for Rev. Matt Harrison and his family, that, in Christ Jesus, his service for the church would prosper -- in unity of doctrine and practice. And that he serve in humility and forebearance, yet without compromising the orthodox faith handed down from our Fathers and the Apostles.
Amen.
